Here is a 5 minute read about the compelling message that is in every mention of the Denarius Coin in the Bible, see how it shows us what the Denarius represents in relation to the Black Horse of Revelation 6 AND BE AMAZED! – see denarius coin of Revelation 6:5
Just below this overview of the Black Horse, is a video which covers ALL OF THE SYMBOLS of the Black
The majority of Bible commentators and teachers state that the Black Horse of Revelation is the horse of Famine….. In my video, I present some crucial evidence about the Denarius and the Balances from the entirety of the Biblical text which confronts popular sensationalized teaching on this subject; and I think I am bold enough to say now.., I believe I have uncovered the true meaning of the Black Horse Revelation 6!
Let’s examine the verses surrounding this horse.
Revelation 6:5-6 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on it had a pair of balances in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures say, A measure of wheat for a penny (Denarius), and three measures of barley for a penny (Denarius); and see you hurt not the oil and the wine.
I have observed that the majority of Bible Commentaries focus on just a ‘half a dozen verses’ which have been taken from various parts of the Old Testament for their interpretation.
For example they use this verse below to explain why the Horse is ‘black’ and why it represents famine:
Lamentations 5:9-10 We got our bread at the peril of our lives because of the sword in the wilderness. 10 Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine. (I must add here that the KJV is the only version that translates the skin as being ‘black’ in this verse. The ESV which is a better translation and the other versions provide this translation from the Greek. “Our skin is ‘hot’ as an oven with the burning heat of famine”.)
These verses are given as evidence to explain what the Balances mean.
Leviticus 26:26; When I break your supply of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in a single oven and shall dole out your bread again by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.
Ezekiel 4:16″Behold I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they shall eat bread by weight and with care.”
From the verses referenced above the conclusion is made that the balances of Revelation 6 must represent the scarceness of bread and famine. Quite often teachers speculate on what the Denarius would have bought in those days and then they calculate what it might buy today.
The main explanation given for the Four Living Creatures’ declaration of “Do not hurt the Oil and Wine” is that the rich will still have their luxuries while the poor will only have meagre food rations to eat.
Other teachers draw their interpretation from Matthew 24 stating that ‘Famine’ matches the line-up of the terrible calamities that are going to be thrust upon the earth in the last days. I would just like to point out that the Pale Horse lists ‘Famine’ as one of the plagues it will bring to earth, along with the Sword, Pestilence etc.
So with these few verses, most teachers and commentators have drawn their final conclusions for their interpretation of Revelation 6:5……………… I however have gone to great lengths to show the repetitive consistency of Scripture in relation to all of the symbols and I am hoping people will get a far better conclusive picture!
next view my video about all of the symbols that are connected to the Black Horse. It is relatively comprehensive but there are still quite a number of important facts which are included in the book that are not mentioned in this video; for example, I show how the Black and White Horses of Zechariah perfectly mirror the Black and White Horses of Revelation. To fully understand what I have discovered, I advise that you purchase my book.
(Please note that at 24 minutes and 40 seconds into the video it “should read 49 “days” rather than “weeks”).
